The New School Orientation team welcomes you and your family to The New School. Our team is here to support you and your family as you transition to The New School. New Student Orientation: Monday, Aug. 21 – Sunday, Aug. 27 Please refer to the New Student Website as you prepare for your next steps as a student at The New School. One of the items on this checklist is to register for New Student Orientation. Actively participating in New Student Orientation is an important aspect of facilitating your transition to The New School. Orientation provides an opportunity to make new friends, explore New York City, and get excited about your new home. All new students are required to attend New Student Orientation. Attending New Student Orientation provides new students the opportunity to… gain a more concrete feel for the campus community. learn about campus resources. meet with an academic advisor. connect with faculty and current students, including your Orientation Leader (OL). learn what it means to be a Narwhal. Parent and Family Orientation: Monday, Aug. 21 (10AM – 6PM) During our one day Parent and Family Orientation, participants will hear from numerous university administrators, faculty members, and current students about how to partner with the University to support your success and learning. We welcome and strongly encourage family members and guests to attend Family Orientation and learn about how to get involved at The New School as a family member. Reservations for Parent and Family Orientation should be completed at the same time students complete their New Student Orientation Reservation. Pre-Orientation Programs: International Student Experience Program: All new undergraduate international students are invited to attend the International Student Experience Program on Saturday, August 19. Attendees will be able to move into their on-campus residence halls on Friday, August 18, between 1PM and 4PM. **Parent and family members should also register for this program.  New School Firsts Pre-Orientation: This pre-orientation program on Sunday, Aug. 20 is specifically designed for students who have identified themselves as coming from families in which neither parent has earned a four-year, undergraduate degree (first-generation college student). At The New School, first-generation college students are proudly called “New School Firsts.”  They will be able to move into their on-campus residence halls on Saturday, August 19. New School Firsts must sign-up for the pre-orientation program in order to move into their residence halls on Saturday, August 19.  **Parent and family members should also register for this program.
