Sand Sculpting Camp

Sand Sculpting Camp
Ages 5-13 (Please note that due to the intensive nature of our camps, we are unable to accommodate 4-year-olds) Children have an intuitive sense of spatial ability. When they close their eyes to visualize an image they are essentially using their ‘mind's eye’ to concentrate and problem solve. Sand offers the children a unique medium for artistic expression and opens up the world beyond paint and clay. Interpreting the world through different modalities provides the children with an opportunity to recognize their spatial talent. Developing the spatial intellect is as important as developing linguistic, mathematical, kinesthetic and social skills. After all, Albert Einstein gathered his basic insights and inspirations from spatial models and imagery. While we are not expecting the children to split an atom at the end of the day, sculpting sand will help fulfill their need for artistic expression will fostering cognitive development. About Instructor Marianne van den Broek Marianne has been a sand sculptor since 1999 and started her sand sculpting business in Key West in 2009. She has worked with local schools and youth to introduce them to the art form and let them explore the possibilities of sculpture with this temporary medium. Marianne moved to the United States in 2004 after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in communications in the Netherlands. She and her husband moved to Key West in 2005. When she is not traveling all over the world to work with sand, she is a local charter boat captain who can be found on the waters around Key West. Camp Details In addition to registering online we will require a more detailed form for emergency purposes. The ArtCamp! 2017 registration form and Camper Code of Conduct will be available on the first day of camp and must be completed prior to the commencement of camp. Camp commences at 9:00AM and ends at 4:00PM. Each week the children will enjoy a field trip to a local museum or venue associated with the camp’s theme. To ensure the comfort of your child throughout the day, we have included a list of essentials. Please pack these items in a beach bag that can be left at the camp. The bags will be kept in a designated storage area to which the children will have access. It is important that all items be labelled with your child’s name. Snacks will be provided, however, the children will require a packed lunch. Pizza will be provided on the field trip unless otherwise noted. We look forward to sharing an action-packed summer with your child!     Swimsuit     Closed toe shoes     Flip flops     Sun shirt     Lotion     Hat     Reusable water bottle     Towel     Sun screen     LUNCH
