BDAV CPD Seminar, Monday, 7 August 2017
Our next CPD Seminar will deal with two important matters: DESIGN ISSUES FROM A BUILDING SURVEYOR'S PERSPECTIVE The BDAV endeavours to nurture a positive working relationship with professionals that impact our profession. Building Surveyors have an important role in the building design process. Stephen Scimonello will discuss some of the design issues as observed by Building Surveyors. This will include an open forum discussion aimed to be a constructive exchange to improve communications between the two professions. Presenting the Designers' viewpoint will be BDAV Life Member and Past President, Geoff Hoare, a very knowledgeable and highly respected practitioner and speaker. About the AIBS Speaker Stephen Scimonello is a Committee Member on the AIBS Victorian Chapter Committee, and has a strong background in education, construction, building surveying and planning. He is a registered building practitioner in the category of Building Surveyor – Unlimited and a Certified Practicing Planner with the Planning Institute of Australia. As well as running a private consulting practice, Stephen consults to various state and local governments including Consumer Affairs and is a serving panel member on the Technical Panel of External Consultants with the Victorian Building Authority. He is also the Discipline Leader for the Building Surveying Degree program at Holmesglen. Amongst his many professional roles over the years, he has been Municipal Building Surveyor with the Bass Coast Shire Council, Latrobe City Council, Wellington Shire Council, and the South Gippsland Shire Council as well as a general building surveyor for inner city Councils. RESIDENTIAL EFFICIENCY SCORECARD We will also hear about the Victorian Residential Efficiency Scorecard by a representative from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning. The Residential Efficiency Scorecard is a unique program that provides an energy star rating for homes. In the same way as a fridge or washing machine has a star rating, a Scorecard rating shows how much energy is used by different parts of the home, and provides a representation of the running cost of the fixed appliances in the home. This will enable you to guide your clients to make home improvements efficiently and cost effectively. Accredited assessors can be engaged to deliver a Scorecard assessments for a fee. They will use the government supported Scorecard webtool to rate the energy efficiency of the home's construction, fixed appliances and other key features such as solar PV energy production. The two-page rating certificate also recommends upgrade options to improve a home's rating. Sponsors The event is supported by James Hardie, BDAV's Diamond Sponsor, and Architectural Window Systems.
