10 Keys to Courage
“Whatever you do you needs courage.
Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong.
There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe that your critics are right.
To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs!
Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Today I made a decision that took courage. It’s not what “most people” are doing. It’s not going to catapult me into the limelight. It’s going to cost me in terms of flights to be moved or cancelled. It’s going to cost in terms of connection. The taking of this choice feels different. Absolutely Quiet and Quite Adult. It’s not the direction that my ego would have me take: it is a move to a steady, quiet space from which to create differently. It was a choice that put my family, my core business – and me – first.
“Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you’re scared to death.” Earl Wilson. It took a revisit of my 10 Keys to Courage to step up to the plate and – decide! Here they are:
“If you wish to experience peace, provide peace for another” Tenzin Gyatso 14th Dalai Lama
1. Find the motivation for contribution to get over your self and get on.
2. Preparation is Key
3. Trust yourself to Succeed.
4. Take accountability – there is only feedback, no failure
5. Overcome your Fear by honoring it or fighting it- whatever it takes for you
6. Take Action – to do nothing is the saddest choice you can make – mostly…
7. Model – be inspired by others, hang out with them and do as they do
8. Build reference points by starting small
9. Come from a space of the heart – be powered by generosity
10. Exercise your Courage
Start doing the things you think should be done,
And start being what you think society should become.
Do you believe in free speech?
Then speak freely.
Do you believe in an open society?
Then act in the open.
Do you believe in decent and humane society?
Then behave decently and humanely.
“Life is a gift and it offers us the privilege, opportunity and responsibility to give something back by becoming more” Anthony Robbins
It takes courage to become more! The secret to living into courage, for me, is in the shift of focus from self to other. Right now, my vision is of Mira Moonbeam, my Partner, Derek and My Clients. Where do you look for courage to be yours?
